The Black Sheep came to life in John Freeman's basement in 2003 during his now famous Denang bar era. Matt brought his newly modified Mandolin, and with Mitch's Acoustic and Tim's bass we rocked into the wee hours. Not long afterward a monthly rotation opened up at "Down the Hatch" Linden when a friend moved to California. After charming our way into a weekend spot, the 1St night was rocky as we established ourselves. By the second night we packed the place. Occasionally working with many of our talented drummer's we have been performing since. Many times for extended stays for months. Renown for our unique sound and putting a new spin on classic tunes we provide a fresh approach using many non-traditional instruments.
Due to our depth of material and interesting instrumentation we always try to live up to the credo of "What the Hell Will They Play Next?". Our hobbies are;playing to packed houses at local venues around Flint and Genesee county, working on original material, and waiting for the big break that will let us quite our day jobs. Although, technically, Mitch's job as a matador is actually a night job.
